"A Filthy Orgy of Horror and Death"

By Dr. Abner Mality

Morbid Slaughter seems like about the 50th band I've reviewed this year with "Morbid" in their name. These guys surprise me by being heavily influenced by 36 Crazyfists and Periphery with their technical djent sound...

Just kidding! Actually, this is exactly what you'd think a record called "A Filthy Orgy of Horror and Death" would sound like. Primitive, low-fi, a good way! This band from Peru has no pretensions. This is an unsavory stew of early Bathory punked up black metal, Hellhammer/Celtic Frost primitivism and the dirty thrash of Brazillian pioneers such as Sarcofago and Vulcano. And absolutely nothing else! Therefore, if you're in the mood for any of the above, you should enjoy this. The production sound is very scuzzy and I'm pretty sure it's a female doing the appallingly corpse-like and whispery vocals. If so, I'd sure hate to forget feeding the cat in her house!

Lots of mesmerizing repetition plays a part in the Morbid Slaughter game. The simple riffs of "Cannibal Butcher", "Torture Without Anesthesia" and "Slay With Steel" are almost trance-inducing. "Fuck Off (We Murder)" is pretty much straight up gnarly punk while "Death Cold Blood" brings out the doomier side of the band. As you would expect, lyrics and visuals are fixated on skeletons, demons, cannibals, etc, etc.

If you're looking to wallow in the muddy mire of basic blackened death/thrash, you could do worse than Morbid Slaughter.
