''Holed Up In the Lair" EP

By Dr. Abner Mality

It's been a long time since I heard a squawk from these feathered furies, but they've escaped the birdcage long enough to unleash this brief stinger of an EP, recorded during lockdown restrictions. Somebody must have spiked their seed because these four tunes sound even faster and more pissed than is usual for KING PARROT, a band not exactly known for being laid back.

The whole thing is done in under ten minutes, but if you like manic punk-fueled grindcore, it's good enough. Matt Young's vocals are shriekier and more hysterical than ever...a definite acquired taste. First track "Banished, Flawed, Then Docile" is the "epic", coming in at over two and a half minutes. Nothing else reaches the two minute mark. The bass and drum are more up front in the mix and deliver a furious pounding. Lyrically, it's the tasteless and comedic social commentary we've come to expect from KING PARROT.

Honestly, I don't like this as much as their LP's but I'm still glad to see life in the old bird yet and hopefully it won't be long before a full length and accompanying hilarious video barrage are let loose once more.
