ICHABOD

"Dreamscapes from Dead Space"

 by Octopi Mills

I am not sure what the band had in mind when they named it Ichabod, but surely it is a good name...But I have trained myself not to be led away by wild imaginative whims, and fight off the image of school masters and old, sleepy hollows, with coach whip sounds and percussion based on horse hooves and recorded in hollows...

It seems the root of this word, might go back to the hebrew, meaning "inglorious". In doing this we have learned something, and the power of words must never be understated, as they unlock and reveal meaning, or lack thereof. This seems to be the case with most clever words and their slingers...

The music opens with a sample from the  western Tombstone, if i am correct; the song being "Huckleberry"...As the songs blaze forth, I reckon it might appeal to fans of Orange Goblin and Clutch, with it's 70s sounding guitar riffs and bluesy solos, with some bearded sounding vocals that bellow forth wails, that are manly and forwardly bear-ish at times. At times this manifests a close minded perception in my crawling brains; a denim, normal looking frontman and a fiery club band with folks pumping fists and swilling beers.A lot of rock and roll moments that are fiery and guitar driven with heavy chords and and screaming bursts...

There is nothing original or fresh in the music, and it is executed in a manner that is standard and and deliberate; like a club band that "jams"...There are moments that experiment and explore, though never achieve anything more than a transitory moment, though it sounds like the fellows are having fun with their tools, and just living life, and getting angry at times with these screaming vocals mixed with philosophical advice or opinion that sounds like the typical stoner scholar; with easterly ideas and westerly means...

There isn't much i can say about this one, and it doesn't do a lot for me to hold the attention.I will try to cap it off by saying it could be called at times feel good and standard, rock and roll music with a formula of big dumb guitars and vocals that are the same of this genre; in delivery and ideals, and it never reaches anything unimagined, ever, though it sounds like they are having fun. Perhaps too much fun...
