HELLISH OUTCAST

"Stay of Execution"

By Theron Moore

"Stay of Execution" started throwing elbows right out of the gate with "Partition of Lust" which is always a good sign that the record in question is gonna rock.  11 tracks of solid thrashy, death in the vein of Deicide meets Pantera with enough speed and crunch to satisfy even the staunchest of metal fans.

Track 6, "Leave," was a head scratcher for me though.  There was a melodic element to this song that didn't quite fit in with "Stay of Execution" as a whole.  Same thing can be said of the final track "The Wait" which was acoustic and no vox.  Oddball songs that didn't fit the overall thrash vibe of the record which in and of itself was quite good.

Would I recommend "Stay of Execution?" Sure.  It reminds me of what was going on sonically right around the early 90's with songs like "Partition of Lust," "Gods of Fear" and "Torment."  Too many bands nowadays are trying to take metal in directions that don't make sense to me.  Hellish Outcast gets it done right with "Stay of Execution."
