“Lord of Misrule”

By Rusty Coffinnails

Dig out the lava lamp, dust off the black candles and gather round the pentagram! It's time for Blood Ceremony!  A female fronted 60s 70s styled folk metal band outta Toronto.

If you dig the sounds of the 60s and 70s with a heaping helping of black magic and classic horror film influences then this outfit is for you!

The first track titled “The Devil's Window” kicks off with a Jethro Tull style flute driven folk prog metal with vocals that remind me of Grace Slick. It is a fun number and all their stuff is quite catchy! That being said the title Track "Lord of Misrule" is quite a masterpiece giving the members a chance to do what it is that they do best. It is quite catchy and I found myself singing  “In the night we exist, we make merry and get pissed. It’s four o’clock and getting on for dark, there’s a feast of fools in the back of beyond” aloud at work. (It's cool… they know I am out there).

This is a well thought out and well-performed album I see lots of the retro 70s stuff coming out, some good, some bad. The pagan folk style these cats use is fun to listen to and not overly "edgy"…it’s kinda work friendly stuff. I personally enjoyed the shit outta this album and found it to be quite replayable.

I can't really think of any major flaws in this piece. So go check them out! And just for fun Google "Lord of Misrule" if you don't already know what one is.
