EARTHDOG

Earthdog here, your local friendly doom representative. Along with submitting reviews for Wormwood Chronicles, I am also chief writer and creator of Doommantia.Com which is a website dedicated to Doom Metal and its related genres. So why Doom Metal? Doom metal is a style of heavy or extreme metal music most safely characterized by its depressiveness which is something I have lived with off and on for my entire life so there is no better soundtrack to my existence than the sounds of gloom and despair. Of course it wasn't always doom-metal that was playing on my stereo as I was born in 1964. My first experience with heavy music came from my parents, Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Grand Funk Railroad and Mountain are some of the bands that my hippie mum and dad regularly played. It was 1973 when music became a personal experience when I was given a box of heavy rock cassette tapes, one of the tapes was 'Black Sabbath's Paranoid album and pushing play for the first time with that album changed my life forever. I have lived through the 70's punk-rock boom , the N.W.O.B.H.M explosion of the late 70's/early 80's and I was around to see the birth of the black, death and of course doom-metal genres and the rest is history. I grew up in Australia before moving to the UK in the 80's and then eventually back to Australia for several years before settling in Washington State, USA. Don't ask me how I finished up here, it is a mystery to me really.

I have been writing reviews off and on since the mid 80's and my first experiences where with little hand-made fanzines sold at local metal-shows. None of these were successful so that led to me thinking any kind of writing career was never going to happen. Little did I know about something called the Internet that was just about to come into my life and again change my life once more. Since 2001, I have been writing reviews in one form or another. I started with a Yahoo page before going on to Myspace blogs under different names before finally settling on Earthdog in 2005. Doommantia was born in 2009 and now looks like never stopping. I am proud to be part of the Wormwood Chronicles team of writers, this site is easily one of the most underrated sites on the net for articles on metal music, films and books. The Wormwood forum is also perhaps the friendliest forum I have ever been a part of so that is even more reason to support this great website. Hopefully I can continue to bring reviews and interviews to Wormwood for many years to come.....ED
